The programme has been framed by JGNDPSOU to achieve the following objectives:
a) To bring familiarity with major literary works, genres, periods and critical approaches to Indian, British, American and World Literature.
b) To enhance the ability to use current theoretical approaches to literary study.
c) To provide an opportunity to read closely and appreciate a variety of forms, styles, structures and modes.
d) To articulate the relations among culture, history and texts.
e) To develop the proficiency in language skills.
f) To instill a profound level of critical and resourceful thinking about the society.
g) To foster the ability to analyses and derive human values through study of language and literature.
h) To be able to employ analytical, interpretational and evaluative skills in differ contexts.
i) To write clearly, effectively and creatively.
j) To hone the professional skills of the learners making them self-sufficient for employability.
